The Elven Question-- CH 8

The sounds of clattering footsteps and a cheerful whistle echo through the halls of Fignar's Laboratory. Unfortunately, as Ayliss'ay'ndria has warded her private suite to all outside annoyances, she is unawares of the imminent intrusion. She jumps in surprise as the door swings open and appears slightly panicked as Robert greets her enthusiastically, wrapping her in a hug. Instinctively, she tries to position herself between the gift wrapped box on the bed and Robert, but her efforts to hide the gift are in vain.

The Elven Question-- CH 7

Childish laughter breaks the morning silence, followed by scurrying footsteps, and another set of far heavier boots chasing behind. A shrill shriek pierces the air before dissolving into giggles. “Robert!” the girlish voice cries out in between giggles, “Stop it at once!” Liria flies out the front door of the inn only to be caught around the waist by Robert and swung effortlessly up into the air.

The Elven Question-- CH 6

“. . .and a grand celebration was held throughout the land as the kingdom rejoiced upon the birth of their long awaited princess. The King and Queen had long despaired of such a happy event occurring, and the resulting festivities were of such joy and happiness, it had been unheard of in generations.” An inelegant snort interrupts the melodious tones of the storyteller.

The Elven Question-- CH 5

Pages of notes are neatly arranged along the immaculate stretch of Ayliss'ay'ndria's arcane workbench. A collection of pristine glassware, crucibles, mortar and pestles, and other alchemical equipment lie in precisely organized arrangement, awaiting their application. She studiously ignores the haphazard mess of the workbench behind hers. Over the years, the elven wizard had long forsaken any hope of determining which organizing principle Fignar employed.

The Elven Question-- CH 4

The sweet smell of freshly turned earth fills the air. From the spreading boughs of the elder trees that line the manicured paths, tiny pastel blossoms burst forth in the welcome warming rays of the sun. The twittering of birds fills the air, and in the distance the sounds of a rushing brook can be heard. Meltwater from the winter ice in the surrounding mountains has swollen the rambling streams to capacity, and the resultant rush and gurgle can be heard as the overflow rushes to the sea far below.

The Elven Question-- CH 3

The hat is unstylish, dreadful, unfashionable, cumbersome, and will flatten her curls if worn for any length of time. “You would think if arch mages are noted for their superior intellect and prodigious mental capacity, they would have found a more pleasing outward mark of their scholarship,” the words though nearly a shout in her brain, remain unspoken, as Fignar symbolically mage hands the offending chapeau upon her head.

The Elven Question-- CH 2

The towering spires on the Magespine Cathedral are clearly visible through the glass of the private parlor and room that Ayliss'ay'ndria had retained for the use of her master while he remained in town for the defense of her dissertation at the Raceth Institute of Arcana. Placing a hand on the draperies, she absently notates the quality of the weave of the silk before pushing them aside to stare down at the sprawling city.

The Elven Question

The lingering twilight of a midsummer evening bathes the sylvan valley in warm hues of rosy gold. Diffuse light filters through the canopy of leaves, softening the harsh planes of the craggy mountains in the distance. Ayliss'ay'ndria sits in the bay window of her room, her back resting against the frame, and her sketchbook open on her knees. The heady scent of honeysuckle wafts in on a breeze that lazily stirs the gossamer curtains. The golden haired wizard absently pushes the curtains out of her way as she watches out the window.
