Controlling the Negative Energy required for Circle of Death does not seem to be a problem. But the spell uses so little of it. Weaker beings do indeed suffer from its effects, but it is a death spell, and most things seem to be able to withstand it. Conjuring enough Negative Energy for simply "bludgeoning" is possible, however its larger quantities make it difficult to control. To refine the process the Inflict Wound's spells have been examined, but determining their mechanics is proving difficult, likely due to their Divine nature.
Progress continues much as expected. The Negative Energy can now be called forth in even larger quantities then before, and the shaping of it is becoming a more simple process. As such, it seems the next step is to develop the delivery mechanism. There are many spells which produce results similar to the desired one, however outside sources have pointed to Circle of Death, and so it is the one which I plan to study. I believe the mechanics of the spell could be gleaned if a scroll of it were obtained and properly examined.
Progress has gone as expected. Simple practice has increased control over the Negative Energy, and it can now be called in much larger quantities. If this rate of advancement continues, then the next step will be perfecting the delivery mechanism. After that, target and effect testing will be all that remain.
